'Human Rights Aware' aims to tackle an important aspect of UNMET LEGAL NEEDS in the community. Promoting an understanding of human rights issues along with adequate information, training and resources to individuals, local groups, schools and colleges. Information on human rights issues are to be sent out quarterly through our free bulletin/newsletter-RIGHTS4U.
We are convinced through primary and secondary research that there is a considerable need for impartial initial advice, guidance, referral and representation on various issues of Human Rights and Advocacy in the community. Participation in various human rights projects, conferences, issues and supporting vulnerable member of the society. We hope to work relentlessly to uplift human dignity in accordance to the principles laid down by the Human Rights Act 2000.
Mission
We aim to provide affordable subsidisedindependent advocacy and impartial advisory services on
a wide range of legally and personally related matters (research, information,
referrals and if need be representation) for individuals and organisations. Established
as a centre of freedom and excellence for people to seek guidance and help in
confidence on the basics for understanding the ‘legal maze.’
The Human Rights Act which came
into force in 2000 represent a powerful framework of positive entitlements with
regards to private life, the practice of religion ,personal liberty, property, employment and some other basic rights. The HRA and The European Convention on
Human Rights are in place to protect human dignity and guarantee equal rights
to all and sundry. However, the means for gaining access and its application
present a lot of difficulties especially to immigrants, the ethnic minorities
and people with little or no education. Being aware of rights in broad outline gives
the opportunity to know when it is breached and the remedies that are available.
We will endeavour to guide and help them to utilise and appreciate how this
society has imbibed to respect human dignity and the rule of law.
Aims/Objectives
The Importance of our service:Some people are not able to access legal advice from high street solicitors, government departments and agencies. This is due to fear of cost, bureaucracy and the inability to understand the complexities of law in relation to their needs. Another vital or important or consideration are people suffering in silence and may never come out or visit the local advice bureau through fear and erroneous beliefs. This is also applicable to people who really have a case but believe they have no voice to speak and no leg to stand on! But in reality, they sometimes do.
We will research and provide
information and explanation in layman’s language, removing the myths and/or fears associated with the pursuit of seeking to establish one's rights.
Identifying the individual needs with in depth understanding of the client’s perspective,
showing passion of a friendly and trusted organisation. This is to empower the
client to make a wise decision as to how to pursue the case at hand. We stand
by the client in pursuance of his/her rights or accepting responsibility for
mistakes. We may go further by writing or arranging support through or solicitor to follow the client to
tribunals or court if need be. This kind of service is invaluable and is
part of the unmet legal needs of the community.
